(The 3rd Sunday of March)

Held in the small town tours of Tarabuco, near Sucre, Pujllay is a rural festival featuring music, dance, costumes, food, has remained very authentic. It celebrates the independence battle of Jumbate, when the native people defeated the Spaniards on March 12th, 1816.

Thousands of people from 30 rural communities dressed in elaborate costumes participate in the colorful celebration. Music is performed only with native instruments and rigorous dancing invokes the souls of fallen indigenous soldiers.
