The Andes in Bolivia consist of two main ranges being the most western in the frontier with Chile. The formation of the Andes began at the end of the Cretaceous geological period. To the East there are much older structures of granite and crystalline rocks belonging to the South American Plate, which come to the surface in the east in Brazil. In geological terms, Bolivia is one of the richest countries in the world, where metals such as: tin, zinc, tungsten, antimony, silver, iron, lead, gold and lithium are the most important mineral resources. Other resources found in the country are natural gas, oil, timber and hydro-resources.
