Even though Bolivia is the least studied and, in terms of biodiversity, most underestimated countries of the tropics, more than 3000 different species of orchids have been identified up to now. The mountain jungles of Yungas near La Paz and the lowlands of Santa Cruz have the largest concentration of orchids in the country. Every year in October the Festival of the Orchid takes place in Concepcion, village East of Santa Cruz city.
